Business continuity message template (solo founder)

A structured “if I’m unavailable” message your partner or team can follow — focused on the first 72 hours.

The goal

Make it easy for someone to keep the lights on: access, priorities, and who to contact. Keep legal details for professionals.

Template (copy/paste structure)

Write it as a checklist. Aim for clarity, not completeness.

  1. Situation & first step: A short context and what to do immediately.
  2. Who to contact: Co‑founder, accountant, attorney, key clients, emergency contact.
  3. Money & payments: Bank/contact person, invoices, payroll, subscriptions, and recurring expenses.
  4. Critical systems: Email/domain hosting, cloud, deployments, admin panels.
  5. Immediate priorities (72 hours): Stop failures, communicate with clients, secure accounts.
  6. Longer-term handover: Where docs live, project context, what to review weekly/monthly.

Keep it current

  • Review quarterly (or after big changes).
  • Use separate messages for different roles (finance vs engineering).
  • Avoid raw passwords; provide a safe path to access.

Create a continuity message

Start with a single “72-hour plan” message, then add details later.
