Business continuity message template (solo founder)
A structured “if I’m unavailable” message your partner or team can follow — focused on the first 72 hours.
The goal
Make it easy for someone to keep the lights on: access, priorities, and who to contact. Keep legal details for professionals.
Template (copy/paste structure)
Write it as a checklist. Aim for clarity, not completeness.
- Situation & first step: A short context and what to do immediately.
- Who to contact: Co‑founder, accountant, attorney, key clients, emergency contact.
- Money & payments: Bank/contact person, invoices, payroll, subscriptions, and recurring expenses.
- Critical systems: Email/domain hosting, cloud, deployments, admin panels.
- Immediate priorities (72 hours): Stop failures, communicate with clients, secure accounts.
- Longer-term handover: Where docs live, project context, what to review weekly/monthly.
Keep it current
- Review quarterly (or after big changes).
- Use separate messages for different roles (finance vs engineering).
- Avoid raw passwords; provide a safe path to access.
Create a continuity message
Start with a single “72-hour plan” message, then add details later.
